Asexuality

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I'm starting this year with a fresh eye because I noticed something very important missing:

The blog I had about what asexuality is, never came back online after I put all my blogs offline with the copyright claim, so here is a new improved blog about the basics of asexuality.

What IS asexuality

Asexuality is the lack of or not feeling sexual attraction towards others.

Asexuality is a spectrum as said in the definition “lack of‘ or not at all and anything in between. 2 of the most known ace spec identities are demisexual and grey-asexual

Demisexual: only feeling sexual attraction towards others when an emotional bond is formed.

Grey-asexual: only feeling sexual attraction under certain circumstances.

There are many more, however, I'm going, to be honest, I can’t remember them all so to make sure I don’t misinform you I'm going to refer you to this website to read about them.

What is asexuality NOT

people often think asexuality is not wanting to have sex

However, some asexuals feel sexual attraction and thereby might want to have sex {like Demi and gray asexuals}. Asexuality is about sexual attraction, so even asexuals who do not feel sexual attraction can still choose and/or want to have sex. And yes, there definitely are asexuals like me who don't want sex, but that's not what asexuality necessarily means.

SAM

Asexuals also often use The SAM Split-Atraction-Model.

this shows that your sexual and romantic orientation differs from each other. Where most allosexual people are one and the same, asexuals often do differ in them,

for example, I identify as asexual Biromantic.

You also have Hetero-, Homo-, Pan-, romantic, etc.

There is also Aromantic, where you feel little to no romantic attraction towards others. However, not all asexuals identify with this.

Not everyone is a fan of SAM as there are more attractions than just sexual and romantic, and they feel like SAM implies it's just those two, the other attractions are:

Esthetic, Platonic, physical, and emotional, there might be more, but these are the ones I know of. I plan on posting a blog about this somewhere in the next months, when it’s done ill be sure to link it here.

Symbols

Asexuality is often shortened to ACE.

The ace of cards is thereby frequently used as a symbol in the ace community, I even used it in my logo. There are even specifics to it.

Ace of spades: aromantic asexuals

ace of hearts: romantic asexuals

ace of clubs: grey-romantic & grey-sexual asexuals

ace of diamonds: demisexual & demiromantic asexuals

The Ace Ring: a black ring on the right middle finger is a symbol for aces often only aces know about it, but it's just a way to show our pride and maybe recognize each other.

Fun fact: aromantics have an aro ring that's white on the left middle finger!

Then there of course is our beautiful Asexual flag:

Black: Asexuality

Grey: Demi & Grey-asexuality

White: non-asexual partners & allies

Purple: Community

The A in LGBTQIA+

Asexuality but also the other A’s {agender and aromantic} are a part of the LGBTQIA+. They fall under the + or A depending on how people use the acronym.

This is because they differ from society's “norm” the norm being: Allosexual, Alloromantic, Hetero & cis.

I am writing a whole blog about this subject because, in my opinion, we are definitely part of the LGBTQIA+ community, but there has been debate about this subject over the years.

Over the years we are being more accepted into the community, but when I first started identifying as asexual I wasn't always welcomed in LGBT spaces. They said asexuality is their own thing, or that asexuals aren’t oppressed and thereby don't belong to the LGBT+. As said, I am writing a blog about this subject coming out somewhere in the coming months, I’ll be sure to link it here.

Thank you for reading this blog,

you are acesome.
