April 6th is International Asexuality Day,
a day centered around advocacy, celebration, education, and solidarity.
and also very much about international organizations and activist
Asexuality
to start off let's talk about what asexuality is for people who found this blog and don't know yet.
asexuality is the lack of or the not feeling of sexual attraction.
It is a big spectrum that involves *demi and *grey asexuality and many more umbrella terms.
as far as I know, the percentage of asexual people lies between 1 to 2%.
Not many you might think but when you think about it that are a lot of people around the world.
Why I.A.D
so why is this day so important you might wonder, well there are many reasons.
education
Asexuality is misunderstood a lot, its starting to be a more known sexuality but a lot of people still have the wrong idea of what it is. education and advocacy are very important to help change this.
to get the information out to let the world know what asexuality is.
besides, that more people will know what it is, it will also help people who might question their sexuality to find out they are asexual.
I personally haven't learned much about it in school so I am hoping this will happen more. but that can only come if we keep education the world about asexuality.
advocacy might lead to more studies on asexuality.
there are not many studies done about asexuality, by doing advocacy there will be spread more light on the subject. this is an international day so this means around the world more and more people will know about it and that means more people might wanna do a study about it.
it will also help involve asexuality in other LGBTQIA+ studies.
if you fill in a study it often doesn't really involve asexuality.
Celebration.
organizations and activists around the world work very hard to advocate for asexuality.
so this day helps to celebrate what we have accomplished and what we are working on.
it can make us feel proud and give us pride.
asexuality is not something to be ashamed of even if others might say so.
so the celebration is a big important part of this day.
especially in a year like this where everyone stays home and keeps distant and where we cant have a pride parade or festival.
solidarity
we can compliment, help each other out, really take the time for that on this day.

I myself was part of the discord who full of organizations around the world who have been discussing for months about this day. I am a volunteer for a dutch asexual organization.
I find it very cool that we worked together like this from translating stuff for each other, sharing stories, sharing each other's stuff.
I think this makes the ace community very strong!
Each country has different things that make aces struggle in any way.
This day and what has been done with this day this year to me teaches us a lot about that.
through stories, we can hear what aces in other countries struggle with and maybe help or just spread the story or information more.
most info is in English. most people know about Aven but there are many more organizations that deserve credits. they all bring info in different languages and that is very important.
I write in English because I just like English a bit more, I find it easier because I struggle more with my dyslexia in dutch than I do in English, but also when writing in English I can reach more people.
A lot of info I found when discovering asexuality was in English too.
I have been thinking of writing in dutch to but I need to figure out a way that works for me.
besides that, there is a dutch organisation now so the information about asexuality can be found in dutch now, so I don't know how much need it is for me to blog in dutch too.
Why April 6th
-The date was chosen by an international committee to avoid clashes with other significant dates around the world and to fit in with the constraints of the participating organizations as far as possible. No date is perfect, and we apologize if the date isn’t ideal for you. We will review the date after the first year.
April 6th will sometimes fall during Autism Awareness Week, and that’s something we’re aware of. The first time this will occur is 2024. We welcome feedback from the autistic community, especially autistic aces, about our choice of date and if it’s not suitable, we’ll find a new date going forward.-
I am very excited about everything that is planned.
also, I'm curious to see what it will bring over time.
I just want to take the time to thank all activists and organizations that work so hard on this day and all their other advocacy. It makes me so proud to be part of an organization and do my own activism where I can. I feel it is important to thank those who do the activism because it can take a lot of work!
I wish everyone an amACEing International Asexuality Day (I.A.D)
Thank you for reading this blog,
